We're starting to shop for a Class a RV. Not buying real soon but want to look around and figure out what features we want. Tried to google for dealers with inventory somewhere near me but not having much luck. Anyone know of any dealers with used stock within 100 miles of so of Pgh? Thanks!

That's kind of what I'm thinking now. I will really look for a reasonably priced diesel, but if a nice gas rig stands up and says, 'pick me!', I think I'll roll with it. Thanks to everyone for the advice!

Just for giggles, I googled the hp and gross vehicle weight of a VW Beetle. I figure that would constitute 'adequate' power. Hp-43, GVW-4200. Looks like the formula works. :-)

Ok, this may seem like a dumb question. What is the real size of RVs and how do campgrounds etc determine it? I've noticed in ads that a 40 ft rv may say that the real length is 41+. If I reserve a spot for say, a 40', do they actually measure it or do they go according to what the model number...

Thanks! Gary mentioned that formula in a previous thread and I'm glad it works. We're going for a somewhat longer model than yours but it looks like I won't turn my nose up at the lesser powered diesels. I'll have to give them a try.

I've posted about this sort of thing before. It was decided that diesel is preferable. I get that. But, I'm having some issues as I shop around. The v-10 gas has around 360 hp. I've seen diesels 325, 350 and 400 hp. Looking in the 35-40 class a range. Opposing slides. Some more than 400 but...

Looks good around the major cities. But, the other areas, not so much. Far too much advance planning needed. With ice, you just go. And, when you need fuel, you don't have to go more than 1/4 mile out of your way, if that.
