Not sure if it mentions, but the Tesla semi w/ 500 mile range weighs 26k. The 300 mile version is just under 21k.

There's a weight disadvantage compared to an equivalent diesel tractor which are 19k-ish, but for a first generation? Tesla isn't that far off.
 
That video says nothing. 1 was a heavy load on lowboy. Who knows what the electric truck or other truck was hauling.
(Empty or potato chips vice pallets of metal stuff???)
At end of video you see another fuel burning truck following electric on right up the center lane.
The difference will be more in the battery KWH used than the performance as EV truck carries more weight. The torque of the EV truck is much higher than that of the diesel.

If that article is accurate — about 800 miles with initial charge and 1x 30minute to an hour recharge — then it getting closer to being feasible. But the money it will take to build the infrastructure. It’s still a long way out for long haul.

Agreed. But for what fuel costs everyone, there is a potentially huge incentive. I doubt a Tesla tractor is cheap, but the big guys would likely do what they already do - lease new trucks when they need to, and as their fleet ages start incorporating any viable EV semis available on the market.
 
I don't know about up there in Canada, but here in the USA professional truck drivers are only allowed to drive 11 hours per 24-hour day. Strictly enforced. This means they have 13 hours per day to charge up with no negative effect on where they are going.

There a lot of truckers that run teams. Two drivers per truck taking turns driving. That keeps the truck on the road making money and meeting deadlines. Not sure when those drivers will have time to recharge the batteries. Of course our great government will just outlaw teams to meet the agenda.
 
As with EV cars, there isn't an immediate, all-or-nothing approach to conversion. Never was. Wouldn't expect that with EV semi's either, in fact I'd expect double the timeline given the useful life of a diesel tractor.
