Hi
So we have no water coming out of the hot side of any of the faucets.
I made sure the bypass was in the correct position and it is.
Any thoughts on what I should try
Thanks

Yes, what it probably is the check valve on the outlet of the water heater is shut and will not allow hot water to pass through it. What you can do temporarily is remove it and knock out all the internal parts then put it back in until you can get a new one.
Now if you never need to winterize, you can leave it that way with all the internals removed. That check valve is only used when winterizing. It stops antifreeze from going into the heater tank.

Was it working yesterday and just stopped now ? How would the bypass suddenly be changed ? Even if it was, water should still be flowing to the hot taps.

There is usually a check valve close to the hot water tank outlet. The check valve prevents water from back flowing into the tank but allows water to exit. The check valve can get sticky and become a problem.

I don't know your specific design but, there could be a check valve at the cold water inlet at the hot water tank too.

It was working this am, we traveled today and it stopped when we arrived. I opened the pressure release valve and water comes out of it.

I called ace hardware and they have one made by sharkbite, it's brass with male ends.
I will take the old one out in the am and bring it with me to make sure it's correct.
Appreciate the info

When installing the check valve, look for an arrow in the side of the valve body. It has to be pointing away from the heater.
Please let us know how you make out.

This happened to me years ago. I removed it from the back of the water heater and could see it was buggered up. I knocked the valve innards out with a socket extension, put it back together and trip continued. It's that way to this day, I use air to winterize and can safely live without it.

Had a couple of women (Mother/daughter team) Same thing happened to them.. I told them about that valve and next time we talked they were once again "In hot water" (A good thing in this case).

Next time I met them they'd replaced the valve..also the water heater... also the trailer.

It's working, last night DW did a load of laundry on cold only and after that we had water flowing from the hot side.
I'm still going to get a check valve to keep in stock.
Thank you for all the replies.

Sounds like your check valve started working again. I would still replace it. Take the old one and clean it up and keep it for a spare. If you don’t replace it, sure enough it will happen again and it may be when you’re getting ready to take a shower or mama wants to soak in the tub.

How long has it been since you flushed your water heater? A common cause of the check valve plugging up is pieces of mineral deposits from the water heater tank. It should be flushed at least annually and you need a water heater flush tool to get the pieces out.

I spoke to soon....lol
Off to ace to get a replacement.
Kirk I flushed it out about 6 months ago and will do it again when I replace the check valve.
