Walmart overnight parking

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an RV or an interest in RVing!

This is my understanding too of what WMs allow overnight parking.

Don, I think you have WalMarts in the U.S. confused with those in Russia. Are you to say that a WM delivery truck that arrives at 3 AM and parks until the receiving docks open will be told to leave by the local PD?
Sure, most if not all private land is subject to different zoning laws. But, zoning laws are to protect the public's private property. Who or what parks at a WM overnight has zero threat to the public,

Those parking places at the loading docks are designated for the WM trucks.
They are not public parking spots.

does walmart insurance cover accidents that happen while you camp overnight in their lot?
IIRC, Walmart has a policy of never settling lawsuits out of court. Not many want to bother with what it takes. WallyMart does NOT have a problem with frivolous lawsuits because of their policy.

Or you could say:

WallyMart does NOT have a problem with frivolous lawsuits because of their many high paid lawyers and deep corporate pockets.

Make fun all you want. That isnt what i meant and you know that.

If it is ok for you to trespass then it must be ok if someone does it to you. You cant have it both ways

does walmart insurance cover accidents that happen while you camp overnight in their lot? I dont know but assume because their corp policy is to allow it they carry some amount of coverage.

Lots of examples. Someone runs into your rv while parked there. Someone breaks in or worse. You slip and fall. Etc.
My platoon sergeant said "assumption is the mother of all .... ups".

The way it usually works on private property that is for public use, such as the Wally-Marts, is it is not trespassing until you are asked to leave by management and refuse. Then they call the cops and then you could be arrested and charged with trespassing. So if asked to leave, for any reason, do so right away.

Isnt that how it works for any private property? You wont get arrested just for being on someone elses property unless the owner tells you to leave and calls the cops

Nope, I don't think it always works that way. Say you jump over a fence with a "no trespassing" sign. I assume that is all it will take in such situations, but not in all.

One can also trespass and not even realize it. Then you need to be told. So it depends on the situation.

So if you see somebody in your backyard at 0300 hrs, you must ask? I don't know about what you would do, but I would call the cops right there.

I check my security cameras for both my houses from here at several random times per day and night. If I see somebody in my backyard, even during the day, I am calling the cops. I assume that would even justify a 9-1-1 call.

I agree with there being exceptions such as when there is signage but the police arent going to automatically arrest you only for that usually. Even if there are signs it is still legal for people to enter a property such as to knock on the door

how is it different than company owned private property?

Like you said it depends. If kids were theowing a party or someone was burying bodies i would call the police. If it was a neighbors kid or an old person wandering aimlessly i wouldnt automatically call the cops. There were a few shootings in the news recently over people coming up to the door to ask permission for something or to turn around in the driveway or someone getting lost that highlight the problem.

The more we get away from common courtesy the more people will hunker down and feel they need to defend themselves. Not a good place to be

Yes, which includes protecting the neighbors' property and safety as well.

Many local governments regulate parking of RVs, boats, etc., on private property through the zoning ordinances.

There are cities/towns where the local ordinances do not allow overnight parking in business (private property) parking lots.

I know there are differences but that example doesnt have anything to do with trespassing
Okay. But there are differences. At WalMart, you're not trespassing until after you are asked by management to leave and you refuse. That is when they call the cops.

If I see somebody in my Reno backyard (which I can see from here) it will be a call to 9-1-1 to be transferred to the Reno cops. And I have no doubt the Reno cops will come out. The people in my backyard were never asked to leave by me or anybody else. They will not be asked much of anything, but most likely will be arrested. That is the difference between private property for private use (my houses) and private property for public use (WallyMart).
