"Removing your muffler or catalytic converter could put you on the wrong side of the law, with consequences ranging from fines to impounding your vehicle. In this article, we outline why you should never remove your catalytic converter and which common mods may get you pulled over."

If the RV is OBD2, then you'll have a perpetual "Check Engine" light because it's not getting correct readings from the O2 sensor at the cat. Fuel mixture will forever be incorrect too.

I'm not sure I'd trust Google to make a diagnosis about your catalytic converter, might want to consult a professional before just cutting it off.

May throw a code so your check engine light stays on. My wrangler says it needs O2 sensors. My mechanic says those hollow converters are the problem (I bought it that way). I may be illegal. As far as I know I’ve never heard of an exhaust check here in Ohio so I don’t really care.

If your oxygen sensor is on or downstream of the catalytic converter, removing the converter will definitely pop a “Check Engine Light”. Upstream of the CC, you’re okay.
There are resistors that you can plug in to the converter harness that will simulate a good AFR and then the light will go out.

Years ago we could just go to a muffler shop and buy a catalytic converter "test pipe". You removed the CAT, installed the straight section of pipe. Many owners would forget to reinstall the converter. Today the CATS have big flanges on each end to make it harder to use a test pipe.

Likely will run fine.. Some engines are fine tuned enough the backpressure from the CAT is needed but most modern engines will adjust in less than a mile... HOWEVER if some inspector sticks his nose under and sees it missing or sticks a probe in the tail pipe and sees stuff the cat should remove..... Well that is a legal issue and I'm not a lawyer.

Two years ago my converter was stolen on my 2005 with Ford V10 chassis. I put in a section of flex tubing and have had no problem. The O2 sensor is in front of where the converter was so there are no error codes. It is slightly louder.

shopping

Clear check engine light tool!

On my Chevrolet K1500 pickup all of the innards of the bad cat finally blew it out clean, but it ended up clogging the muffler. Replaced both 2 years ago.

When cats first came out some drove a piece of rebar through the cat then shook all the contents out. The interior honeycomb was as easy as breaking glass. Then the smog pump could also be removed. More horsepower and better gas mileage but not environment friendly. I'm sure thieves would be greatly disappointed.

Got a recall letter on my JEEP... When they get the part in (likely after the strikes end) the dealer will call me and install a new CAT and re-program the Engine computer.
