I have always bought from dealerships.

I know nothing about buying from an individual ( in Canada )

I need a checklist.
is it stolen etc? is it loan free? did he borrow against it?

HELP!!!

thanks guys

Here in the States, get the VIN, and the license plate number, call the sheriff’s dept. in the county where you live, and give them these numbers. They will ‘run the numbers’ and tell you if it has been stolen.
Ask the seller if they have a ‘clear title’. If they do, there is no money owed on the RV, nor is the RV collateral for something.

Where in Canada?

I am unsure of the procedure in other provinces, but here in Ontario, the seller will have to provide you with a UVIP (Used Vehicle Information Package). This provides you with vehicle history that contains essential information like registration history, outstanding liens, and recorded odometer readings. A CarFax or similar report can provide accident history.

As well, if we are talking about a motorhome, the vehicle has to pass a Safety Inspection at an approved shop, to certify its road worthiness, before it can be transferred to a new owner.
